Peter Schaltz, born December 13, 1950, is one of the most winning players in Denmark and the world. He has won a wealth of Danish championships and opened his quota of international success by winning the European Junior Championship 1970 in Dublin.
He has been among the world’s top players ever since, twice finishing second in the European Teams, once winning the European Mixed Teams, and achieving bronze medal in the Olympic Teams 1984 in Seattle. In later years he has won several medals as a senior, most recently gold at the D’Orsi Trophy in 2023 in Marocco.
As early as in the European Championship 2002 in Salsomaggiore Peter Schaltz achieved his 500th cap for Denmark in the Open Team. If you count all the bridge matches he has played for his country, Schaltz has surpassed 1000 as the most capped Danish national player – not just in bridge, but in any sport.
Peter Schaltz has always behaved as a gentleman at the table, and when not playing himself he has sponsored a lot of bridge events. He is a keen developer of system methods and has a wonderful sense of humour. He is well known for his bridge related jokes as well as for his playing skills.
The bridge career of Peter Schaltz is even more remarkable when considering that he has been an amateur player through most of his career, just a few years ago retiring from a management position of a wine company.
