SERBIA

Serbia (Marko Gligorijevic, Milorad Radojevic, Mihailo Simic, Olga Simic, Aleksandar Stankovic, Veljko Vujcic) are the winners of the 14th European Small Federations Championship. It cannot have been fun having a bye in the final round and having to watch as all the other teams tried to catch them. But, as it turned out, the serious threats all fell by the wayside, and it was left to Estonia (Jaanus Maripuu, Hendrik Nigul, Olavi Oja, Sven Sester, Taavi Toomere, Vilmar Vahe), who had gone into their last match in seventh place, to storm through to take second place and the silver medals, a couple of VPs behind the new champions. Meanwhile, Faroe Islands (Arni Dam, Magni Jokladal, Arne Mikkelsen, Danjal Pauli Mohr, Hedin Mouritsen, Bogi Simonsen) beat Croatia to take third place and the bronze medals. As for Croatia, it was a case of what might have been. Having led at the start of the day, they scored only 34 VPs from five matches to fall to fifth overall.
