Piotr Gawryś, born in 1955, is one of the most successful Polish bridge players.
He has won 5 world titles in the most prestigious teams competitions: Olympiad 1984, World Bridge Series 2014 and 2018, Bermuda Bowl 2015 and most recently 2022. His collections of medals includes also silver of Bermuda Bowl 1991, silver of World Teams Championships 1994, two golds (2005, 2017) and silver (2009) of Transnational Teams, gold of Mixed Teams in Olympiad 2000, silver of World Masters Individual 2000, gold and bronze of European Teams Championships (1993, 1991), gold and bronze of European Open Championships (2013, 2017), gold of European Pairs Championships 1995, gold of European Individual Championships 1992, gold and bronze in European Champions Cup (1984, 2019) and two NABC wins (Vanderbilt 2002, Spingold 2018), silver of Spingold 2019, wins of Zimmerman Cup 2020. In the national competitions, he won many medals, including 14 wins in the Polish Bridge League between 1982 and 2015.
In 2014 he started a regular partnership with Michał Klukowski and relatively quickly they became one of the best pairs in the world. The most important partners in his earlier career were Mr Henryk Wolny and Mr Krzysztof Lasocki.
After winning 1984 Olympiad in Seattle, Gawryś and Wolny took 5th place in the ranking for the best sportsman in Poland carried out every year by “Przegląd Sportowy” newspaper.
