European Fall Online Transnational Senior Championship: the Winners

198

The European Fall Online Transnational Senior Championship has come to an end… and what an event it was!

Congratulations to 🥇Team Zakrzes (Slawomir Bak, Roman Grzelak, Ewa Miszewska, Andrzej Pawlak, Marek Szymanowski, Andrzej Zakrzewski, Slawek Zawislak) on their victory!

Besides EBL Medals and EBL Master Points, the winners have earned six free entries to the upcoming European Winter Transnational Championships, to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 10 to 19 February 2026.

Congratulations also to the runners-up, 🥈Team Lall (Hemant Lall, Michal Kwiecien, Zia Mahmood, Reese Milner, Michael Rosenberg, Jaggy Shivdasani and Wlodzimierz Starkowski), and to the bronze medallists: 🥉Team Baltic Express (Sergei Birins, Petro Karlykov, Maksim Karpov, Vassili Levenko, Mykola Nieskoromnyi, Bruno Rubenis) and 🥉Team Belgium (Jean Marie Backes, Faramarz Bigdeli, Philippe Coenraets, Zvi Engel, Alain Kaplan, Olivier Neve, Guy Polet, Claude Renard).

In the Swiss event, Bulgaria (Georgi Gergov, Zlatko Nedelchev, Yordan Valkanov, Angel Vanchev) placed first, followed by Norse Vikings (Tor Bakke, Lars Eide, Odd A. Frydenberg, Jon-Egil Furunes, Sven Olai Hoyland, Oyvind Ludvigsen, Peter Marstrander) and The Seniors (Rob Cliffe, Roger Gibbons, David Kendrick, Malcolm Pryor, David Robinson, Ed Scerri, Tony Sowter, Trevor Ward).

The event was played at a truly high level, with several World Champions taking part. That in itself shows the strength of the field, and all teams deserve credit for facing such top-class opposition. Not everyone can win, but everyone can come out a better player: that’s bridge!

A Message from the EBL President to all participants

Dear Friends,

I was delighted to see how you managed to combine the joy of competition and good bridge with a warm spirit of friendship and familiarity: not an easy balance to achieve.

My warm thanks go to all of you, to the EBL Seniors Committee, chaired by Peter Talyigas, to the EBL staff, and to our partners at RealBridge for ensuring the success of this event.

The coming months will bring many new opportunities: our Online Championships for Women and Seniors, and of course our great Winter Transnational Championship in Prague. I truly hope to see you all there.

Thank you all for keeping the spirit of bridge alive, with skill, warmth and friendship.

Eric Laurant
President, European Bridge League
