Administering the Mind Sport BRIDGE in Europe

The European Open Championships (EOC) were established in 2003 following an idea by then EBL President Gianarrigo Rona, as an event for all players including, for the first time, non-Europeans. Transnational combinations are allowed, and there are no restrictive quotas for any nation.

The EOC are held every odd-numbered year and include pairs and team competitions in each of the four categories: open, women, seniors and mixed. It has absorbed a number of pre-existing championships, namely the European Pairs Championships in all four categories as well as the European Mixed Teams Championships. Those championships are listed individually under "European Championships".

In 2013, on the initiative of EBL President Yves Aubry, the event has been broadened to include also daily side-events in order attract a wider range of players. This also provides alternative playing opportunities for non-qualifiers in the medal events.
